Beef and Spuds

Beef and Spuds is a typical simple meal favored by students worldwide. In fact anybody living on a budget will benefit from this low cost high nutrient dish.

I'm not sure where this recipe emanated, my guess is that a student had a few things left in the cupboards and fridge and a crockpot. That's fine because most great recipes are born out of necessity and they live forever. Submitted by David McCarthy, Australia

Ingredients

  • 3-4 potatoes, sliced thin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 lb (450 grams) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 (10-1/2 oz – 300 gram) can spaghetti sauce
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Method

Put potatoes in the bottom of the slow cooker. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Add remaining ingredients.

Cover and cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours.
