Ham Steak in Strawberry Sauce for Two

The ham steak in strawberry sauce cooks in the oven for 60 minutes. Enough time for you to clean up and get gussied up for your significant other. You’re not making this just for yourself, are you?

Ingredients

  • 1 T butter
  • 1 ham steak 1 inch thick
  • 4 T brown sugar
  • 1/3 C apple cider vinegar
  • 1 t dry mustard
  • 3 C strawberries, halved (or strawberry preserves
  • 1/2 t cinnamon
  • 1/4 t cloves
  • 1/4 t ginger
  • 1/8 t nutmeg

Instructions

Preheat oven to 300 F.

Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.

Brown steak for 3 minutes. Turn and continue browning for 2 minutes.

Remove from skillet and place in a shallow baking dish.

Place the brown sugar in a bowl and pour vinegar over sugar.

Add dry mustard and whisk until sugar completely dissolved.

Spread the mixture evenly over the meat.

Place the strawberries into a saucepan and add all the spices.

Simmer for 15 minutes over low heat, stirring often.

Immediately pour the strawberry sauce over the meat.

Cover baking dish loosely with foil.

Bake 1 hour.

Let stand in baking dish for 10 minutes before cutting.
