Star Cheeseburger

by Dianne Stevens

A Star Cheeseburger adds a bit of whimsy to a basic burger for children and happy adults. All it requires is a star-shaped pastry cutter and two easy-to-make spreads.

Ingredients

  • 8 hamburger buns, split
  • romaine lettuce
  • tomato slices
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 pounds (900 grams) ground beef
  • 8 cheese slices, cut to star shape using a pastry cutter

Instructions

Shape ground beef into eight 1/2-inch-thick patties.

Cook patties in frying pan, or barbecue grid over medium, ash-covered coals. Grill, uncovered, 11 to 13 minutes to medium doneness (160 degrees) or until centers are no longer pink and juices show no pink color; turn once. Season with salt and pepper, as desired.

Meanwhile prepare BBQ Ketchup Spread or Honey-mustard Spread.

Cut shapes from cheese slices, using star-shaped cookie cutter.

Approximately 1 minute before burgers are done, place cheese stars on top of burgers.

Spread cut surfaces of buns with desired spread. Place lettuce and tomato on bottom of each bun, as desired. Top with burger.
